The son of the\u00a0Duke\u00a0and\u00a0Duchess of Edinburgh, previously known as Viscount Severn, turned 18 on December 17 \u2013 the same age his late grandfather,\u00a0Prince Philip, was when Queen Elizabeth is said to\u00a0have immediately \u201cclocked\u201d him and \u201cnever thought of anyone else\u201d.<\/p>\n<p id=\"eMw8NZj3Xw5\" data-wc=\"44\">Born in 2007 at Frimley Park NHS Hospital in Surrey, James Alexander Philip Theo was eighth in line to the throne at the time of his birth. It\u2019s a moment that was \u201cincredibly moving\u201d for his mother, Sophie.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p id=\"eDAsPtZSlq\" data-wc=\"116\">\u201cI suppose there was a part of me initially that thought, \u2018Would it be appropriate for James, perhaps, to do it?\u2019 because he was younger than the others, but he was really keen to do it. And I think it was really important for him to do it, and obviously for Louise as well,\u201d the Duchess told\u00a0<em data-gid=\"eKfC7oh9KhP\">The Telegraph<\/em>\u00a0in January 2025. \u201cBut they did it so well, each and every one of them. I was slightly holding my breath, wanting them to feel that they\u2019d done it well more than anything else. I wasn\u2019t worried about anything happening; it was more that I wanted them to feel that they\u2019d done their bit for their grandmother.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"in-article-ad\">\n<div id=\"div_adsconex_banner_responsive_4\" data-google-query-id=\"CJrb8qOn9pEDFR2FpgMdWI8AXw\">\n<div id=\"google_ads_iframe_\/22751588535,23055578086\/CafeX\/Feji.io_Banner_Responsive_4_0__container__\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazy-img\" src=\"https:\/\/images.hellomagazine.com\/horizon\/large_original_aspect_ratio\/931c62b59744-gettyimages-1243305504.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"360\" height=\"240\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Queen Elizabeth\u2019s eight grandchildren held a vigil next to her coffin in 2022<\/p>\n<p data-wc=\"14\">\u201cIt was incredibly moving, and lovely to see her surrounded by them,\u201d Sophie added.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h2-3oian4mjgsek0o\" data-gid=\"egCq_BvlNBmh\" data-wc=\"3\">A normal upbringing<\/h2>\n<div class=\"in-article-ad\">\n<div id=\"div_adsconex_banner_responsive_5\" data-google-query-id=\"CJeEoOWn9pEDFau2VgEd9fgZMw\">\n<div id=\"google_ads_iframe_\/22751588535,23055578086\/CafeX\/Feji.io_Banner_Responsive_5_0__container__\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p id=\"eOyQjHLu7q\" data-wc=\"90\">Despite being members of the royal family, James and Louise have had a relatively normal upbringing. \u201cWhat\u2019s normal? They go to a regular school [they both attend top independent schools],\u201d Sophie told\u00a0<em>The Sunday Times<\/em>\u00a0in 2020. \u201cThey go to friends for sleepovers and parties. At weekends we do lots of dog walking and stay with friends. I guess not everyone\u2019s grandparents live in a castle, but where you are going is not the important part, or who they are. When they are with the Queen, she is their grandmother.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"e5DsND5QDZM\" data-wc=\"56\">Having their children grow up \u201cas normally as possible\u201d was important for both the Duke and Duchess. The mom of two once told the BBC: \u201cCertainly when they were very young we tried to keep them out of it. Sophie previously explained to\u00a0<em>The Sunday Times<\/em>: \u201cWe try to bring them up with the understanding they will very likely have to work for a living. Hence we made the decision not to use HRH titles.
